Skills shortage threatens economic recovery!

A new report from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) states that skills shortages are contributing to a slowdown in the construction sector, which poses a ‘serious challenge’ not only to the industry but the economy as a whole. The publication also highlighted the knock-on effect as sub-contractors snap- up work and drive up their prices.

 

Government pulls the plug on Green Deal

Government has pulled the plug on its flagship Green Deal and Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) scheme to insulate homes having stopped funding of the firm set up to issue home improvement loans, blaming its demise on low consumer take-up.

 

Government u-turn on zero carbon homes policy

It is feared that up to two million extra tonnes of CO2 could be created each year following the government’s dramatic u-turn on its zero carbon targets for new homes. Chancellor George Osbourne revealed that his zero carbon building policy is to be scrapped, which means two policies have been axed: an upgrade to the 2016 Building Regulations and the ‘Allowable Solutions’ carbon offsetting scheme.

A smart move to smart meters!

So, the age of the smart meter is here! With the country mid-way through the roll-out, it can only be a positive thing that, for the first time, consumers can see exactly how much energy they are using, resulting in them making better choices and, ultimately, saving money. Bills will be more accurate and there will be no more unwelcome knocks on the door to read your meter as the unit itself will transmit regular and exact readings automatically.

Purchase protection for small businesses

Many Logic Certification customers are also small business owners, for whom cash flow, particularly when it comes to purchasing goods in advance of payment, can be an issue. To help combat gaps in payment protection, the government is asking small and micro-businesses to share their experiences and views on this problem in order to identify any gaps in protection and possible solutions.

 

Climate change top priority for UK businesses

UK businesses have joined forces to urge the government to address climate change and building a low-carbon Britain by writing an open letter to the prime minister, which was published in the Financial Times on 10th June.
